OUR THOUGHT LIFEReprinted from Volume 3#3 of KBR |
by Mrs. Connie L. We hear each other talk about our interests, joys and pains in life, and that gives us some clues as to what we think about. But that doesn’t reveal all. We can still entertain destructive thoughts. And this is where Satan often begins his downward spiral of sin and pain. If you are struggling in a particular area, stop and evaluate the situation, and why you have this problem. An example is fear. An evaluation might go like this: Am I doing anything to contribute to fear? Eliminate all media that promotes your thoughts of fear, including books, or true story articles. You have enough to deal with in your own personal life. Sometimes it’s the people that we associate with that causes our fear. The opposite of fear is faith. How are you encouraging faith in your life? Filling your mind with the Lord, thoughts of serving Him, thankfulness of who He is, and His power, will dispel fear, even for those who are under tremendous persecution. Faith is a total trust in God. Fear comes from dwelling on self, and our won circumstances. How about your prayer life? A praying person will find victory over a sinful thought life. The Lord really cares that our thoughts are respectable and godly. A good daily prayer for yourself is found in Psalm 19:14: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength and my redeemer.” If your thoughts are often negative, and you are looking for a pattern to follow from the Lord Himself, then I would direct you to Philippians 4:8: “Whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just [holy, righteous] whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue [excellence], and if there be any praise, think on these things.” Why do you need to have a pure thought life? Because this is a revealer of who you really are! Take control of your thoughts. Beware of anger, unforgivingness, lust and dishonesty, to name a few. Thoughts of sin are dangerous. Learn to pray instantly when your heart begins to stray. “For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he” Proverbs 23:7. Let Christ permeate your thought life, my sisters, and find victory in a multitude of areas. |
